1.) "The Body Fat Solution" by Tom Venuto is a well thought out, comprehensive book covering everything you need to know to start a fat burning lifestyle. Tom goes over many myths and digs right down to what matters most to burn fat and build muscle while reprogramming your mind for success. Take the breaks off your program and get real results with "The Body Fat Solution." 





Nutrition


1.) Any of the Precision Nutrition cookbooks by John Berardi, PhD. John knows his stuff. He is constantly studying which should show in the fact that he has his PhD in performance enhancing nutrition! Many of the recipes on Fitness by Chris Finley are either inspired by the recipes I find in Precision Nutrition. They are always high protein which means you support the muscle and burn the fat. They are also simple yet quite TASTY!


Serious Strength Training/Nerd Material


1.) If you are into strength training or you are just a nerd like myself who wants to know everything, get "Supertraining, 6th Edition" by Yuri Verkhoshansky, PhD and Mel Siff, PhD! These guys go in depth with everything from types of strength to shock training, recovery techniques, stretching, and everything in between! They are two of the pioneers in strength athletics. Be warned, this is NOT a weekend read. You will find yourself reading a paragraph and thinking about it for the rest of the day or even the rest of the week! However, you WILL understand much more! Suddenly, what the strength coaches are talking about starts to make sense.


2.) Another great book is "Science and Practice of Strength Training" by Vladimir Zatsiorsky, PhD and William Kraemer, PhD. Both are VERY well known scientists in sports performance. These are the guys who do the studies that others base their programs on. The book covers many of the basics and then some. Another book that makes things "click." You will understand why going to muscular failure is necessary in many situations as well as why athletes use bands and chains in training. If you've on any strength training forums, you know this book is a good one!
